The history of the coffee house is somewhat unclear, but it might’ve originated as early as the 16th century – how’s that for a throwback? With seven coffee shops around the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Company feels like it’s everywhere. The only certified organic coffee roaster in the area, they do their roasting in Carmel Valley, then deliver the beans all over town. Most locations have a turntable and small record collection, truly a throwback feature – and part of the reason for making it a good place to sit and sip for hours. Be prepared to hear oldies but goldies, including Adam Ant.
