One heart, one mind, one yoga, regardless of age, physical ability or financial resources. This, in a nutshell, is the philosophy of yoga instructor Megan McKenzie, who keeps her eye on an even bigger prize while teaching children, moms, moms-to-be and all variety of everyone else how to calibrate breath, body and movement. McKenzie teaches at both Om Studios in Monterey and Carmel Barre, in addition to teaching open yoga on the beach (donation based) and a variety of camps and private clients. The 26-year-old trained in Los Angeles and returned home to the Monterey Bay to practice and raise her son, Quinn. A piece of her heart, though, remains firmly planted in Kenya, where she lived for a year as a teenager, working at Seeds in His Garden Orphanage. A percentage of her fees on a variety of camps and classes gets donated to the orphanage, and McKenzie hopes to raise enough money to eventually build a studio for the kids there. The light in Weekly readers most definitely sees the light in Megan McKenzie.
