In 2016, John and Joy Prock took over Music Unlimited, which had been an Alvarado Street relic in downtown Monterey for decades. The couple pretty much left the store the same, except for a few key changes: In addition to new equipment, they started selling instruments on consignment. The biggest draw for fans of 1970s stadium rockers Journey: The supergroup’s bassist Ross Valory, a longtime friend of Prock, has some of his extensive instrument collection up for consignment.
