At Carmel Academy of Performing Arts, generations of dancers have learned the basics, practiced for countless hours and performed for parents and dance devotees. Carol Richmond has owned CAPA since 1989, and considers the decades of devotion to her students—and the particular art of teaching dance—as the “search for perfection that can never be.” From the audience, it looks pretty darn close. CAPA’s accomplished mentors teach students as young as 3 the technical world of ballet, instilling the importance of working relentlessly toward their goals, both inside and outside the studio.
