Monterey Museum of Art
559 Pacific St., Monterey (831) 372-5477, montereyart.org
The board and leadership has re-positioned the La Mirada location to special events, so all public art efforts are now focused on Pacific Street. That’s a lot of creative energy applied to that building, which houses six exhibition spaces, a gift store, an art library, outdoor sculptures, offices and a workshop space, walkable to everything downtown. Last year they offered up a Summer of Love/Monterey Pop Festival photo show, talks with artists like Meg Biddle and Marcia Perry, events like the beer-and-reggae Brews for a Cause, Saturday Spotlight tours of its various shows, and a Halloween kids crafting day. Not all of that is art, per se, but it sure sounds fun. And it’s just reopened after renovations and christening 2018 the Year of the Woman, so get ready for more creative buzz.
