Hollister-based Swank Farms got its start in the late 1980s, when founder Dick Swank figured there would be a market for his homegrown tomatoes – “the best tasting tomato ever,” he writes on Swank’s website – and now he and wife Bonnie and their team grow fruits and vegetables on 102 acres, and have booths at 19 farmers markets, including the Old Monterey Farmers Market in downtown Monterey. “I think our heirloom salsa sets us apart,” Dick Swank says. “And we like the Old Monterey Farmers Market because we’re able to pick in the morning and put it on the table in a couple hours.”
