Craig Malin | City Manager, Seaside

440 Harcourt Ave., Seaside | (831) 899-6700, ci.seaside.ca.us

Every week or two, Seaside City Manager Craig Malin publishes what he calls a “manifest,” and a “summary that cares more about brevity than grammar, and what is about to or could happen in Seaside than what did or didn’t.” A self-described bibliophile, Malin is an excellent writer and has a sharp wit, both of which come across in his manifest (and in his tweets). He’s also refreshingly unabashed about sharing his opinions on the public record, some of which even come across in reports to City Council. In a recent report about the possibility of Seaside becoming a sanctuary city, Malin waxed poetic. An excerpt: “Thirty percent of Seaside residents (nearly three times the national average) are foreign-born, and from this beautiful beachhead of diversity and inclusion, of dreams and aspirations, who knows how far they and their descendants will pull this long great nation ever forward?”
