As mayor of Marina, Bruce Delgado has helped lead an economic renaissance in the city, with a booming fast-casual restaurant scene and new movie theater. He’s also the only Green Party mayor in Monterey County, and applies an eco-conscious approach to do-gooding, inside and outside the mayor’s office. Here’s a partial list: standing up to Cemex, the multinational operator of the sand mine in Marina; serving on the board of the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board; organizing monthly weed removal projects on State Parks properties since 2003; and advocating for better bike lanes. He’s not so much a kitten person as a snake person, and laments the recent loss of his beloved 24-year-old gopher snake, Roscoe. “She turned out to be more than just a snake,” Delgado says. She turned out to be a teaching tool, encouraging members of the public to rethink reptiles.
