Though single-use plastic bags are almost as ubiquitous as ever, more and more shoppers in California—whether at a farmer’s market or a grocery store—are showing up with their own bags in an effort to reduce waste and minimize their impact on the environment. Locally, that effort is even more important, as plastic bags are one of the most noxious forms of marine pollution, contributing to growing presence of plastic in the Pacific that harms birds, fish—and for those that eat seafood—humans.
