The Food Bank for Monterey County serves one in every five people who live in the region who would otherwise not have enough to eat. It does this through a variety of programs (including its monthly emergency food distribution program at 26 sites), its partnerships with more than 140 other local nonprofit agencies (including churches and shelters), its “family markets” (think farmers market-style fresh fruits and vegetables, but free for those who qualify) at 10 sites and its breast cancer patient food assistance program. These and other programs distribute more than 7 million pounds of food annually.
