Goodwill was a proponent of recycling, repurposing and reusing before it became a virtue, when most people thought that stuff was just the plight of the poor, the elderly and hippies. They funnel their sales revenue into finding meaningful jobs for people who are homeless, addicted, discriminated against, disabled and otherwise tricky to employ. But it’s their product rather than their services that most people want to partake of, including furniture, books, silverware, clothes, games, cassette tapes, CDs, tools, bikes, jewelry, etc. They have shifting sales on their already low, low prices that keep the shopping excitement up, and their inventory is a rotating hodge podge of some of the most unexpected treasures you could ever expect. All of which inspired Macklemore to rap his ode to thrift shop glam. And inspired Weekly readers to crown Goodwill king of the thrift shops.
