In Salinas, the new Taylor Farms building is already a cornerstone of Oldtown. On Alvarado Street and Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey, two long-time empty lots have taken form with cool mixeduse development projects. In the city of Marina, it’s like a flashback to the days of Ward and June Cleaver. There are workers on scaffolding all over the place banging nails and fitting pipe: There’s the VA clinic, a new hotel, a slick seven-screen movie theater and an entire new neighborhood of single-family homes. The word from these pages is that restaurants are on their way in 2016. Here, here. After suffering through a prolonged economic slump, and in the face of some stunningly bad development proposals, it’s great to see good projects getting built.
