A three-time Grammy nominee with Acoustic Alchemy, Dennis Murphy has played with a grab bag of greats including Billy Preston, Maria Muldaur, the Greg Kihn Band and bluesman/comedian Dan Aykroyd. Local music lovers can catch him every Thursday night at Sly McFly’s, where he performs with the Minor Williams Band. Or better yet you can learn from the multi-instrumentalist directly by enrolling at the Dennis Murphy School of Music in Monterey. “I want them [my students] to be able to build music,” he says, “rather than just playing songs.”
