Gafill says she grew up doing art, from the time she was a little kid. “My family was mostly doing stuff like paintings, quilting, knitting, sewing. It wasn’t considered exceptional to do any of that. It was just part of looking at the world.” The Big Sur-based painter has since showed the world her particular vision—colorful, expressionistic landscapes of her beloved Big Sur coast and still lifes of flowers that glow with optimism. And she’s taught others, in workshops, classes and presentations, how to tap their own vision. That’s the point where talent turns into a superpower.
