To sit at the checkout counters at Del Rey Oaks’ Safeway is to observe a shocking amount of individuals opting to double and triple bag their groceries in plastic. They’re apparently oblivious to how those bags break down in nature into particles so small that sea creatures ingest them and, ultimately, so do we. A simple ban helps people work with paper and remember to bring their own reusables. Locally, only DRO and Sand City have yet to approve bans.
