The old Fort Ord isn’t known for modern architecture given visibly decaying military row houses and blighted barracks waiting to be demolished, but the ever-improving CSUMB campus has a few gems that rival any other recent construction in Monterey County. In particular, the LEED Silver, 150,000-square-foot Tanimura & Antle Family Memorial Library, completed in 2009, is the centerpiece of CSUMB’s attempt to revive the old Fort Ord. The $54 million structure earned second place in the 2011 National ASHRAE Technology award and was featured in the fall 2012 issue of High Performance Building Magazine.
