Stone’s Pet Shop might not be the oldest continuously operating pet store in the nation, but it’s pretty close. Since 1957, Stone’s has been the premiere place on the Peninsula to keep Fido and Fluffy well-fed, well-groomed, well-turned-out with collars and leashes and well-engaged with chewies and bobos. Owner Tom Radcliff, who bought the location about eight years ago, opened a second location in Carmel Valley and plans to open what he calls a “second-and-a-half” location too: a new do-it-yourself dog washing center and expanded grooming center in the P.G. location. If you visit and see animals, it’s because they’re being boarded (they take care of everything from lizards to birds to fish), or they’re being cared for while Stone’s helps find them new homes. A recent success story: The rehoming of a hamster named Boo.
