If you’re willing to pay, the bands will play. According to Sly’s owner Jack Burnam, that philosophy has kept the Cannery Row spot flush with live music seven nights per week for more than 35 years. Whether the Dani Paige Band is cranking out contemporary blues originals or Decades (the Cadillac of rock cover bands) is delivering early rock staples via Chuck Berry’s “Roll Over Beethoven,” the blues and rock-and-roll (and soul and R&B and funk) adds up to a formula that keeps the modest-sized dancefloor hopping on a nightly basis. More good news: It rarely costs anything to get inside.
