Homer Bosserman has taught 12,000 students at MPC. Maybe more. After all, he’s been teaching there for nearly 50 years. Since 1965, Bosserman has headed up a popular astronomy course that attracts some 250 students each class. He started at MPC in 1965 after getting his master’s at the UC Berkeley and never looked back. The fun part of astronomy, he says, is simply looking up. Part of the course is taking field trips to secluded places in Carmel to gaze into the sky and ponder the universe. Astronomy isn’t just about brainy science. Knowing your constellations, he says, could also come in handy next time you’re trying to impress a date. At 78, he still doesn’t know when he’ll retire. The answer, perhaps, is in the stars.
