The four houses making up this senior center and club, founded in 1950, were built with the Carmel Foundation’s mission of helping its members live out “successful aging.” That goal can be accomplished through a large assortment of services, like low-cost lunches four days a week; more than 50 classes and activities including foreign languages, dancing and ping-pong; excursions to museums, plays and shopping; lectures on art, health and estate planning; affordable apartments for seniors; and free medical equipment loans. There are roughly 3,400 senior members 55 and older. Membership is $45 a year; the foundation accepts no government funds.
