Carmel Art Association
Dolores between
Fifth and Sixth, Carmel
624-6176,
Established in 1927 (making it the second-oldest continuous artist cooperative in the country), the member artists of CAA must prove themselves worthy of joining this society of established professional artists. Every month they must create new work, and every year they go through a juried review process. They must also live within 35 miles of Carmel. Their numbers change every year (they’re currently at 102 members) and their work keeps the five galleries in their spacious building a revolving kaleidoscope of colors, forms, ideas and perspective. Its footprint in the Carmel art landscape is as a giant among mortals.
