Many children know it as a place where they hang out after school with friendly mentors, but the Boys and Girls Club is much more than a fun clubhouse. It’s also a powerful force in gang prevention, empowering youth to make better choices and giving them a place to go. They empower parents and community members, hosting a powerful gang prevention summit earlier this year with panelists who experienced gang life and got out. They make themselves accessible to low-income families: Memberships cost as little as $25 for a whole year. That’s a real force for good.
