Red Beans & Rice
P.O. Box 101, Monterey
(831) 372-1955
The year was 1993. By day, Gil Rubio was a copy jockey at Kinko’s; by night, he split his time with four now-defunct bands. Rubio also formed Red Beans & Rice in 1993, a collective of like-minded musicians who love all genres of music equally. Fast forward 22 years and RB&R—Rubio (guitar and vocals), Jon Gorman (vocals), John Tindel (keys), Thomas McNamara (bass), Karl Stearns (drums) and Tamas Marius (sax)—has grown into a Monterey County institution with a long list of career highlights, including a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival and multiple wins as the Weekly readers’ Best Local Band.
