With names for creative and affordable tropical cocktails like “The Painkiller,” “The Dark and Stormy” and “The Zombie,” you’d think tiki-themed Hula’s Island Bar and Grill would be the right spot to get blitzed after work. To the contrary, the drinks are something to be savored through long sips from festive, pineapple-skewered straws. The added ingredient of interesting, attractive customers who represent a breadth of Monterey County cultures makes Hula’s happy hour the most refreshing on the Peninsula. As do amazing specials on pupus and drinks 2-6pm, with happy “hour” going twice as long Tuesday and Sunday.
