Gianni’s Pizza / Rosine’s Restaurant

Gianni’s Pizza

725 Lighthouse Ave., Monterey

(831) 649-1500

The special sauce at Gianni’s is, literally, in the sauce. They slather large, thick pies with the old family recipe that’s been in use since this pizzeria first opened in 1974. It’s a recipe that works, and they haven’t looked back since: Everything down to the brand of flour and mozzarella they use is the same as it was when Nixon was president. Not only is this a casual family restaurant with spacious tables and no-fuss ordering at the counter, but your kids can dine on equally solid pies as your parents did.

It’s obvious that kids and adults both love to dine at Rosine’s for their food and out-of-this-world-sized cakes and desserts. But perhaps the building designer who suggested installing the many bay windows that open up the space and allow passersby to peek in should get a round of applause, too.
