There’s a few new flavors on the board of Kara’s every month. For April, there’s a sweet vanilla and apple, a flourless chocolate cupcake for Passover and Mississippi mud pie. That last one is for a good cause—a portion of the proceeds benefit Save the Bay in San Francisco. Kara’s customers can also feel good about the natural, sustainable and organic ingredients that go in. And they deliver, and bring cupcakes to corporate events for a team-building challenge in decorating. That’s one business meeting I’d like to attend.

Toula Portokalos’ family wondered what they were supposed to do with a cake that had a hole in the middle in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Their answer: Stick a flowerpot in there. But for Nothing Bundt Cakes? They fill the space with large fabric flowers or bows, signs and photos on metal cardholders or other occasion-appropriate stick-in decorations. They also do little bundtlets (!) and cupcake-sized bundtinis by-the-dozen. Those come garnished with a generous dollop of their thick frosting, and the cakes themselves are nice and moist. The store also carries an array of Etsy-like cards and home décor.
