While humpback and gray whales are Monterey Bay’s most famous marine mammal visitors, 23 other whale and dolphin species also cruise through, including Baird’s beaked whales, pygmy sperm whales, striped dolphins and the rare false killer whale – which, like the orca, belongs to the dolphin family. Jan. 24-25 is the annual WhaleFest Monterey at Fisherman’s Wharf.
