Despite some sweet touches, this is the furthest thing from a light comedy you can imagine (“Frances Ha examines the lives of the new lost generation playing hide and seek with love,” June 6-12). I thought of it as A Long Day’s Journey Into Night with a happy ending tacked on, and for most of the film both I and the person I saw it with expected it to end in the lead character’s suicide.
I’m not trying to say anything negative about its quality – the acting was superb – but watching it was exquisitely painful. - Cinephile | via Web
