Have you heard the one that goes, “You know what always works in an old house? The owner.”
The do-it-yourselfers on the Peninsula check the two local Ace Hardware stores on the same street within a mile of each other in Pacific Grove as the best in Monterey County. Judging by the votes these two stores get we can deduce two facts: the readers prefer the service and familiarity they get from non-big box retailers, and there are a lot of old homes in the neighborhood.
