A 23-year-old inmate escaped from Monterey County Jail on Christmas day.
According to a press release from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department, just before noon on December 25, jail staff was conducting an inmate count and Freddy Swanson was not accounted for.
Swanson was arrested in Seaside on December 19 for drug and gun charges.
An investigation by the jail staff believes Swanson had escaped from one of the medium-security dorms at the Rehabilitation Facility at the jail several hours before the inmate count. He climbed up a ventilation duct and out of a small window he punched through. He then climbed onto the roof and escaped by jumping off. A small amount of blood was discovered next to the broken window.
A state-wide be-on-the-lookout has been issued for Swanson’s capture.
