A Salinas adult education program beat out 700 competitors nationwide for a $25,000 community gardening grant.
The Salinas Education Center, which works with adults with developmental disabilities, plans on using the grant to expand its garden, according to a statement from Seeds of Change, the organic agriculture company that provided the grant.
The center will buy new plant beds, tools, and seeds, as well as modify the garden pathway to provide easier access to students in wheelchairs the statement says.
Fifteen other organizations received $10,000 grants.
Seeds of Change sells organically grown seeds to gardeners and farmers.
