The Life on Art exhibit at the County of Monterey administration building (168 W. Alisal St., Salinas) features artwork from people incarcerated at the Soledad Correctional Training Facility. The show features works by prisoners who chose to participate in the program in addition to education and mental health programs, preparing inmates for release – and hopefully reducing rates of recidivism. Art gives inmates the tools to process trauma and develop empathy. Those involved in the program also say art helps reduce tensions and gives purpose to creators. The installation features video, audio and still works, as well as the stories and thoughts of the artists behind them. The exhibit is available for viewing 8am-5pm Monday through Friday until Oct. 31. There are additional special evening hours 5-7pm on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
