Monterey State Historic Park has a new exhibit on display, Though Lost to Sight, In Memory Dear: An Exploration of Memento Mori and Posthumous Portraiture at the Casa Gutierrez Community Art Gallery, 590 Calle Principal, Monterey. The exhibit features the park’s collection of posthumous portraits, hair wreaths and hair jewelry, each tied to the life of the person it once belonged to. Many of these pieces have never been shown publicly. Displayed together, they tell a story of family, love and loss, and trace how attitudes toward death changed from the late colonial period through the Victorian era. The exhibit is open 11am-3pm Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 28.
