The idea behind the Wind Phone Project is that a conversation with the dead can be healing. These vintage rotary phones (wired to nothing) welcome anyone to pick up and place a call to whoever it is you want to speak to. The Papillon Center for Loss & Transition asked artists to paint wind phones. One by Ronnie Randon is at the Veterans Transition Center in Marina and two by Paul Richmond are at Saint Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Carmel Valley and the other – using a repurposed Weekly newspaper box, shown above – is at Coastal Kids Home Care’s office at 427 Pajaro St., Salinas.
