• Tire Rack Street Survival Teen Driving School is a 501(c)(3) organization that teaches teens across the country road safety. It starts with a classroom session, then hands-on stuff like how to manage driving hazards and obstacles, emergency braking and skid control, and avoiding accidents. • This Monday, the World Affairs Council of the Monterey Bay Area brings Professor F. Gregory Gause from the Bush School of Government at Texas A&M University to Rancho Canada on Carmel Valley Road to lecture at a luncheon about “The New Middle East Cold War.” 11:30am is registration, 12pm is the luncheon, he speaks 1-2pm. • Helms & Sons Amusements, which provide carnival rides to the Monterey County Fair, is unveiling new rides this year. Two rides are movie themed. Can you guess the movies? The Beach Party, they say, is “themed after a very popular movie featuring adorable little yellow characters.” Another is Block City, a “world where anything can be built or imagined out of tiny little interlocking blocks.” You have 30 seconds to guess.
• The Transportation Agency for Monterey County and the Arts Council for Monterey County is seeking original works of art (paintings or photographs) for a juried show at TAMC in Salinas that celebrate signs that point visitors and residents to the richness of the county.
