As one might expect, the menu includes espresso drinks, frappes and mochas. While there are a few featured house concoctions, such as the Cubanito and Oaxacan mocha, a must-try is the Viva Mojito – particularly as the calendar tips into summer.
It’s a cooling drink in many ways. Crushed mint leaves and creamer bring a fresh, herbal sweetness that brightens the shot of espresso. And the whole is shaken over ice, with a garnish of mint leaves for an aromatic boost. Its rich expression tamps down the bitter nature of coffee, making for a mild, refreshing sip. The Viva Mojito stands on its own. Of course, any of the drinks go well with the pastry options. Coffee beans come from Mexico, Colombia, Egypt and elsewhere, with an emphasis on organic, fair trade coffees and teas. The rest, such as syrups and chocolate blends, are prepared in house. The sugar and caffeine, plus the beat of the music, help set a fast pace even as the cafe invites leisurely gatherings.
As the seating suggests, grab-and-go is just an option. It’s a fine place to settle in.
