Continuing with Salinas Regional Soccer Complex fundraising momentum, Taylor Farms has committed to donate $1.5 million to a $3 million campaign seeking funds to build additional infrastructure and build eight soccer fields. This vision will help the complex to become the largest sports facility between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
“Taylor Farms has stepped forward with extraordinary leadership, creating a moment for others to come together and help build something that truly belongs to this community,” Catherine Kobrinsky Evans, vice president of the nonprofit Salinas Regional Sports Authority and chair of the match fundraising campaign. The campaign launches just after receiving $500,000 from the federal government in February.
This $3 million campaign, simply called "The Match," is part of a $10 million effort to complete two additional phases (Phases 2 and 3) at the sports facility. In addition to the soccer fields, it includes additional stadium seating to host large-scale events, field lighting, bathrooms and more.
More broadly, it is is part of the complex’s $45 million capital campaign which includes a Phase 4 with a wellness center, indoor soccer facilities and a celebration plaza. The complex is located in North Salinas on Constitution Boulevard at East Laurel Drive, across the street from the County campus that houses Natividad Medical Center and the county jail.
Last year, the soccer complex hosted the Alianza Tour, a national soccer tournament, for the first time. And on Sunday, March 22, it will host the first tryouts for Monterey Bay FC’s amateur women’s soccer team.
Besides those special events, the well-used facility reports traffic of about 11,500 people every week, including soccer players of all ages and their families. This number could reach over 22,000 people once the new amenities are built, according to the board.
The complex hopes to fulfill the fundraising challenge this year and have the new fields and amenities ready by spring of 2027.
