The brother of King City's acting police chief was arrested early Tuesday, along with six law enforcement officials.
Brian Miller, brother of Acting Chief Bruce Miller, is charged with conspiracy to commit a crime of receiving a bribe, as well as offering and giving a bribe to Sgt. Bobby Carrillo, was was among the seven people arrested this morning.
Brian Miller is identified as the owner of Miller's Towing in King City by the Better Business Bureau, though an employee who answered the phone at the tow company declined to confirm whether Miller still owns the business.
Five police officers and retired Chief Nick Baldiviez were also arrested. The officers are: Mark Allen Baker, Jaime Andrade, Bobby Carrillo, Mario Mottu, Sr., and acting Chief Miller.
Baldiviez retired late last year after a period of personal leave, and is still being paid out for accrued vacation time. City officials had been planning to begin looking for a replacement this spring as his vacation pay wound down.
"We’re going to be working very hard to figure out how we go forward," King City Mayor Robert Cullen says. "I am quite surprised and disappointed."
For the next two weeks, the Sheriff's office has agreed to help out with patrol duties.
"It is vitally important that people understand our police department is fully staffed," Cullen adds. "It is also extremely important for people to know we as a city council, and our city manager, are taking this very seriously."
Chief Assistant DA Terry Spitz says there are still other ongoing investigations, although he does not anticipate any additional arrests in the immediate future.
"We have not finished our look into what is going on down there," Spitz says.
