The Inn at Spanish Bay will have an unusually busy few days, even as a year of transformation is underway.
The annual Pebble Beach Food & Wine festival begins on Thursday, April 9. Although the four-day soiree’s dinners, tastings and seminars take place at different locations, 25 events take place in the Inn or its grounds.
Meanwhile renovation is underway on both The Links at Spanish Bay and Sticks, the course’s popular restaurant. Crews began work on the course March 18. Sticks was shuttered at the beginning of April.
When completed, both will be very different. Plans call for a more forgiving, playable course, taking better advantage of the views it offers. At the same time, improved drainage and irrigation systems will reduce the watered area by 12 percent, while adding three acres of natural habitat.
Not only is Sticks to be reimagined as a gastropub with a new menu, it will also feature a 4,000-square-foot golf simulator lounge above the pub. At least four “swing suites” with state-of-the-art Golfzon TwoVisionNX simulators are slated for installation. The technology includes a 64-direction motion plate and a multi-surface golfing mat capable of 56,000 possible lies—all while real golf takes place a few steps away.
Golfzon is previewing its simulators at PBFW’s Tasting Pavilion on Saturday and Sunday.
Sticks is expected to reopen in March 2027. The redesigned course is set to open on April 17, 2027.
Construction timelines are notoriously iffy, but Pebble Beach Company managed to keep several projects on schedule during renovation of The Lodge last year.
The course layout and renovation is through Hans Golf Course Design.
