Salinas Police Department announced on April 25 that officers arrested four people and impounded nine vehicles during a sideshow crackdown

Salinas Police Sgt. Zach Dunagan says a person was arrested the day of the sideshow and three were arrested later.

“Illegal sideshows are dangerous, unpredictable, and put lives at risk,” the announcement on social media stated.

Police officers identified several people involved, including drivers and spectators.

“Additional arrests are expected as investigators continue reviewing video footage and identifying others connected to this dangerous activity,” SPD’s statement said.

The impounded cars were registered in various counties, including Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Cruz and Monterey. These vehicles will be impounded for at least 30 days, according to state law, piling up storage and towing costs.

Attendees, even if they are only watching the stunts, can also face consequences, including being arrested, cited and getting their vehicles impounded.

Calls and videos shared by community members prompted the police to intervene.

“We're reviewing all the footage. We're passing off photos of people to our law enforcement partners. We're trying to identify people,” Dunagan says.
