Two months after Monterey Bay FC announced it was adding a women’s pre-professional team to its label, the team announced on March 28 its official name and logo: Monterey Bay Sirens.

“The creation of the Monterey Bay Sirens represents more than just a new team—it is the realization of a long-awaited dream for generations of female athletes in the region and an opportunity to showcase a higher level of talent in the Monterey community,” the press release reads.

The goal of MBFC is to inspire female players from the 831 area code and beyond and to provide them with a platform where they can shine.

“It closes and unites the gap that once was an obstacle for many generations of talented soccer players across the Central Coast,” according to the press release.

MBFC hosted two tryouts on March 8 and March 28 to form its team. The Sirens have three players on its roster so far: defender Izabella Tejada, and midfielders Monserrat Hernandez Marquez and Vanessa Aguilar.

The Sirens will play in the NorCal Division of the W League’s Western Conference, a short, demanding season consisting of 10 games. The Sirens will play at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside. Their first game is on May 9 at 7pm against Stockton Cargo SC at 7pm.
