The City of Monterey announced Tuesday, July 22, that City Manager Hans Uslar, who's served in that role since 2018, will retire in December after more than 28 years with the city.

"I am proud of the progress we have made together," Uslar said in the announcement, which credited Uslar with steering the city through the financial difficulties of the pandemic, and helping to shore up the city's financial reserves.

"In the months ahead," Uslar concludes in the statement, "I remain fully committed to supporting a smooth and effective transition. Monterey is a remarkable place to live and serve, and I look forward to continuing to be part of this special place. Anda."

Monterey City Council holds a special meeting tomorrow, July 23, and among the items scheduled for closed session is a review of Uslar's performance.
