The intersection at Canyon Del Rey and Carlton Drive, one of the few major intersections in Del Rey Oaks, will be closed starting Monday, April 28 until mid-October as part of the construction of the Fort Ord Regional Trail and Greenway, aka FORTAG.

The intersection, which is just across from Del Rey Oaks City Hall, is a key neighborhood artery for Del Rey Oaks and Seaside residents to get from their neighborhoods onto Canyon Del Rey—or vice versa—and the closure will detour traffic off Carlton Drive and onto Quendale Avenue and Portola Drive. Through traffic on Canyon Del Rey will not be impacted.

Construction on the 1.5-mile Del Rey Oaks FORTAG segment started last summer and is expected to last through August 2026.

Once all the segments are built—which will take many more years, dollars and permits—FORTAG will be an approximately 28-mile bike and pedestrian trail loop spanning the former Fort Ord from Marina to Del Rey Oaks, and connecting to the coast in both places.
