The candidate filing period begins today for the Sept. 9 recall election of embattled Alisal Union School District board member Meredith Ibarra. Candidates have from June 2 until 5pm, June 26 to enter the race.
The election comes after the Alisal board passed a resolution May 14 to move forward with the recall. If the majority of the vote is affirmative, Ibarra will be recalled from her position on the board, and the results of the election will determine her successor.
Ibarra, who is in her second term as board member, has become known for her often disruptive outbursts at board meetings.
Those interested in potentially entering the race can call county Candidates and Campaigns Program Manager Melissa Lomeli-Sesma at 796-1486 to make an appointment to review the steps in the process and proper forms and requirements for filing.
