There are two active fires in Monterey County as of Sunday evening, Aug. 9, one in Big Sur and one in South County. Both now have evacuation warnings in place.

The Timber Fire in Big Sur began Saturday, Aug. 8 and on Sunday grew to over 376 acres, with two evacuation warnings in place.

Late Sunday afternoon, a second fire, the Bryson Fire, began near Sapague Road in Bryson, west of San Antonio Reservoir, not far from the border with San Luis Obispo County.
