Pajaro and Watsonville residents living near the levee should expect to receive a loud alert on their phones accompanied by a text during the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 29.
This will be a test of the Wireless Emergency Alert system, which sends notifications such as AMBER Alerts and public safety messages. The County of Monterey is conducting the test with the Santa Cruz County Office of Response, Recovery and Resilience.
The test is expected to happen sometime between 3-5pm on Thursday, Jan. 29. Residents will be notified in advance once the date and time is finalized, according to County of Monterey officials.
Residents do not need to be signed up to Alert Monterey County to receive the alert, according to County Communications Director Nick Pasculli.
Still, those who have not already registered for the county’s alert system are encouraged to do so at alertmontereycounty.org. The system sends text messages and computer desktop notifications with emergency alerts relevant to a user’s specified location in Monterey County.
