Bernie Sanders is coming to town and he wants you to ride your bike—at least that seems like the most viable option as traffic-geddon hits Colton Hall near downtown Monterey Tuesday night.
With the city expecting more than 2,000 people to attend the event at 7pm, traffic and access to the area will be affected. Here is what you need to know:
The city of Monterey will close Pacific Street between Jefferson and Madison streets from 6am to midnight.
Parking in the area will be limited around City Hall and city offices immediately adjacent to Colton Hall lawn, where the rally will be held.
Gates for the lawn close at 2pm to allow security to do a sweep of the area. Sanders is expected to begin his speech at 7pm.
- At 4pm the gate will reopen to allow people from Sanders' campaign and media come in.
- At 4:30pm the public will be allowed into the lawn.
Most city buildings including the Library, the City Attorney’s office, community centers, Monterey Sports Center and the Recreation Division office will remain open.
