An Arizona man was found dead on the coastline of Sand Dollar Beach in Big Sur on Oct. 13, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff-Coroner’s office identified him on Oct. 14 as 38-year-old Trevor Valentine, a resident of Casa Grande, Arizona.

Authorities responded a little after 1pm to a report of a missing scuba diver, which they learned was a swimmer upon arriving, according to the Sheriff's Office. A lifeguard entered the water where Valentine was last seen, and authorities searched a nearby shoreline.

Valentine was found unresponsive on the rocky coastline on the south end of the beach. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter lifted him from the coast to an ambulance and he was later pronounced dead.

Several agencies were involved in the search efforts, including Big Sur Fire, Cambria Community Healthcare District, California State Parks, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Coast Guard, said the Sheriff's Office.
