Call it a big little boost.
The Monterey County Film Commission estimates that HBO's upcoming miniseries Big Little Lies, which was shot in various locations in Monterey County this past winter and spring, brought in about $2.5 million to the local economy since the cameras started rolling in January.
The mini-series created by David E. Kelley, and inspired by Liane Moriarty's 2014 novel of the same name, has a star-studded cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Zoë Kravitz, Shailene Woodley, Adam Scott and Alexander Skarsgård.
Gregory Alpert, the location manager of Big Little Lies, is one of the top three finalists (along with his team) of the California On Location Award, which recognizes efforts made by film production teams to film on-site within the state of California, as well as recognizing the direct positive economic impact it has on the local economy.
"Location scouts and managers are the unsung heroes of production" says Karen Nordstrand, director of marketing and film production for the Monterey County Film Commission. "[They] are challenged to coordinate multiple film sites, foster good-will with the public, and help make the vision of the director and the economics of the producers come together."
Big Little Lies will premiere in February 2017, and HBO released a tantalizing trailer Oct. 15.
