Before humans tried to get all civilized and started eating with forks and knives, or in some places, with sticks, we ate food on sticks. Goat legs, squirrels, yams, whatever we could get our hands on, we’d put it on a stick, hold it over a fire and, boom, food on a stick. It’s a simple, primal pleasure, and the Monterey County Fair is a top spot to deliver it. Chicken satay, check. Corn dogs, of course. Elotes, a Mexican take on corn-on-the-cob with mayo and chili, oh yes. And then there’s the sweet stuff: Caramel apple, yep. Fried banana, so nice. Cake pops, why not? Grab a stick, and stick it in your mouth.
